Multipurpose Space
During the renovation of the Notre-Dame-de-Grace Cultural Center in Montreal in 2015 an adjoining performance hall was added. It was designed predominantly for dance shows but the long-term objective was to create a multipurpose room that could host a varied program of events for audiences of all ages.
According to Jean-Claude Savard, the venue’s technical manager, the room is mainly used for theater, dance and music events. The seating for these shows is usually set up in standard concert hall configuration, but occasionally cabaret style is required.
Generating Income
By using a telescopic seating system the venue team are able to configure the room to suit the type of event and thus optimize its use and profitability. For example, a number of times each year, the room is hired out for corporate events.
The Master Industrie telescopic stand has a capacity of 120 with comfortable Master One seats, 60 places on a balcony and 20 removable places on flooring. When the stand is closed, the hall has a capacity of up to 350.
The final configuration of the space can vary according to the needs of the client and will be tailored to suit the type of event that is taking place. The ability to provide these options is an excellent way to generate additional income for the city.
Transforming the Room
Mr. Savard explains that just two people are needed to transform the room. It takes less than one hour to open and prepare the stand and the same amount of time to close it. He notes that it is important to carefully follow the instructions for opening and closing the seating system to keep the venue team safe and ensure that the stand continues to operate smoothly.
Motorized Stand
The stand opens and closes by means of a motor under the bleacher. The seats are lowered and raised manually, and the rails are also installed or removed manually.
Master Industrie can offer the option of automating all these steps and the final decision normally depends on how frequently the configuration of the room will have to be changed and the number of staff available to do the work. In the case of the Notre-Dame-de-Grace Cultural Center, the seating system is closed approximately five or six times a year and so this type of stand is well suited to the needs of its users.
Local Service
The Atmosphäre team in Canada were able to help the client specify a bespoke stand to meet the needs of the venue, with comfortable seats and the right configuration for the space. After installing the stand, they trained the staff at the venue so that they are able to open and close it safely and efficiently. Atmosphäre provide an ongoing service and maintenance contract to keep the equipment in perfect working order.
